ACC Women's Twenty20 Championship 2009Thailand Vs NepalMatch: Thailand vs Nepal Bangkok Post Match Report -Thailand emerge group champs in ACC Twenty20By: EDWARD THANGARAJAH Thailand emerged group champions in the Asian Cricket Council Women's Twenty20 tournament continued yesterday in Kuala Lumpur, beating unbeaten Nepal by 23 runs in their group, in a low-scoring match. It was left-arm leg-spinner Thanapan Saisud and right-arm off-spinner Nantanit Khonchan who transformed what appeared to a losing encounter into victory for Thailand. Thanapan captured four wickets for eight runs in a spell of 2.1 overs and Nantanit bagged two wickets for 12 runs in three overs to cause a sensational collapse of the reputed Nepalese batswomen. Thailand won the toss and elected to bat and were 25 for no loss with opener Pundarika Prathanmitr batting very well, and Naruemal Chaiwal lending her good support. But a sudden thrust of impatience saw the Thai girls lose their first wicket. Naruemal was run out for 5. From that stage, the Thais struggled to score against the steady Nepalese attack, for whom Nary Thapa (3 for 9) bowled splendidly. She was well supported by opening bowlers Ritu Kanoujiya (1 for 17), Rekha Rawal (1 for 21),Sonu Khadka (1 for 19) and Rubina Selbashi (1 for 9). From 29 for the loss of one wicket, the Thai team collapsed to 80 for 9 in 20 overs. Other than Pundarika, who scored 24 runs with four hits to the ropes before being bowled by S.Khadka, and Sonnarin Tippoch 11 who was ruled out leg-before, off the bowling of Selbashi, no one else entered double figures. Nepal replied with 45 for three in 11 overs, and their batswomen, especially opener Neera Rajopadhyay (16) and Rita Kanoujiya (14) were batting well when Thanapan Saisud and Nantani Khonchan were introduced into the attack. The duo did justice with their mesmeric spinners. Nepal collapsed for 57 runs in 15.1 overs, leaving the Thai girls winners by 23 runs to 57 Thanapan Saisud was elected Player of the Match. In other matches played yesterday, Hong Kong who have emerged favourites for the championship title, beat Malaysia by 92 runs. Hong Kong took first strike and scored 160 for the loss of one wicket and Malaysia replied with 88. Singapore beat Bhutan by 34 runs. Singapore scored 112 fir 4 and Bhutan replied with 78.
