Bangkok Post Match Report - Thai women to meet Hong Kong in final

Thailand reached the final of the Asian Cricket Council Women's Twenty20 tournament after beating China by 27 runs in the semi-finals in Kuala Lumpur yesterday.

Thailand will meet Hong Kong, the favourites for the title, in the final today.

Electing to bat after winning the toss, the Thais recovered from the loss of their openers Pundarika Prathanmitr, who was bowled for no score, and Naruemol Chaiwai, who was run out for five, and went on to unfold a fighting, unbroken partnership of 97 runs.

Sonnarin Tipoch who was unbeaten with 36 with three hits to the ropes and Sivapong Kosaithong not out 21 with one four took the score along to 115 in their quota of 20 overs.

Pacewoman Hu Tin Ting bowled best capturing one wicket for 21 runs.

When China went in to bat, their openers Sun Mengyao (17) and all-rounder Hu Ting Ting (14) were in dominating form, middling the ball well and taking the score along to 31.

Then medium-pacer Nantanit Khonchan struck for Thailand, dismissing Sun Mengyao, clean bowled and medium-pacer Nattaya Boonchatham had Hu Tin Ting neatly caught by Sivaporn Kosathong 16 runs later at 47 and that opened the doors for Thailand's splendid victory.

From 31 for 1 the Chinese slumped to 88 for 9 in 20 overs.

Thereafter, spinners Thanapan Saisud (3 for 19) and Nantanit Khonchan (2 for 4) went into the act, mesmerising the Chinese batswomen.

None of the other Chinese batswomen entered double figures and not a single four was scored by their team.

Sonnarin who top-scored with 36 was declared Player of the Match and was awarded a trophy by Pakistan's international cricketer Javed Miandad, who was a guest of honour in this semi-final.

In the other semi-final competition, Hong Kong beat Nepal by seven wickets.

Nepal batted first and scored 76 for 6 and Hong Kong replied with 79 for 3.
