ACC Women's Twenty20 Championship 2009FInal: Thailand Vs Hong KongMatch: Thailand vs China Bangkok Post Match Report - Hong Kong edge past Thailand in Twenty20 finalBy: EDWARD THANGARAJAH
Thailand were narrowly beaten by Hong Kong in the final of the Asian Twenty20 Women's Championship at the Kinrara Oval in Kuala Lumpur yesterday. They lost by four runs after a see-saw encounter. Hong Kong's openers gave their side a fine lead after they elected to bat having won the toss. They raced to 62 runs before Neisha Pratt was caught by Sivaporn Kosathong off the bowling of spinner Thanapan Saisud for 27. She had two hits to the ropes. Nattaya Boochatham had the other opener Keemu Gill caught by Maneerat Bevacqua after she had contributed 39 (three fours). Sivaporn clean bowled the next batswomen, Chau Sau Har, for one but Connie Wong remained unbeaten with 23 as Hong Kong took their score to 106 for 4. That was a magnificent bowling and fielding effort by the Thais considering Hong Kong have been unfolding high scores throughout the tournament. But when the Thais batted they were in trouble losing opener Pundarika Pratharnmitr with only one run on the board. However, thanks to the fine batting by Sonnarin Tippoch they took the score to 49 with Naruemal Chaiwai. Though Naruemal scored only five, she gave valuable support to Sonnarin. She was out to a catch off the bowling of G Li. Further trouble struck the Thais when Nattaya Boonchatham was out without scoring (bowled by the player of the match Keenu Gill) but Sivaporn Kosathong joined Sommarin and the pair added 50 runs, taking the score along to 99. It was when the Thai suffered the biggest blow of the match. Sonnarin who had contributed 37 well compiled runs, including five fours, the highest number scored by a batswoman from either side, was run out. It happened in the last over of the match with four balls left. Though Sivaporn and Thanapan, who joined her, tried hard to hit the winning runs they fell short by four. The Thais were in tears that they could not complete their giant-killing performance. Sivaporn was not out 17. Full Scorecard
