CAT Match Report

Thailand qualified for the semi-finals of the ACC U19 Women’s Championship with a comprehensive eight-wicket victory over Oman at Prem Centre. It was their third win in four matches as they proved much too strong for a weak Oman side.

The visitors could only score 20 runs off the bat, no boundaries were hit and opener Monisha Nair top-scored with just five, but at least Oman had the satisfaction of surviving the 25 overs to reach a total of 57 for nine.

Thailand’s bowling figures look excellent on paper, Naruemol Chaiwai leading the way this time with four wickets for eight and Piraorn Kamla taking two for six, but the home side conceded 37 extras, including 29 wides and five no balls. Stronger teams than Oman will take advantage of this wayward bowling.

At least the top four girls in the Thai batting order gained some valuable practice in the middle, wicket-keeperPundakia Prathanmitr impressing with four boundaries in her 19 not out from just 19 balls. Siwaporn Kosathong hit two fours in her unbeaten 16 as Thailand raced to their target in just 9.3 overs.

Thai captain Naruemol Chaiwai was named player of the match and she and Piraorn Kamla are making a name for themselves in this tournament as they are now joint leading wicket-takers with nine wickets apiece in four matches.
