MISSION STATEMENT
- To promote and popularize Cricket throughout all the provinces of Thailand
- To provide an ideal playing environment and create the much needed “Cricket Culture”To support talented cricketers to reach their full potential
- To improve the quality of life through embracing the traditions and values of cricket; andTo propagate the “Spirit of Cricket”
The Association focuses on the principles established in the mission statement and thrives to develop cricket in the Kingdom.
Great emphasis has been placed in the strategic development areas such as governance, player development, talent identification, women’s cricket, cricket education, competitions and facilities.
The future of cricket definitely looks very prosperous with more Thais taking up the game seriously. It is heartening to see more ethnic Thai representation in all the age groups.
Events Hosted by the Cricket Association of Thailand (CAT)
CAT Basic Cricket Coaching Course
Chonburi, May 20 – 21, 2006
This course was aimed at bringing the Thai Physical Education (PE) teachers together to educate them the basic skills of cricket so that they could introduce cricket in their respective schools. 24 participants from the Central and Eastern regions attended this course.
ACC Elementary Umpiring & Scorers Course
Bangkok, June 9-15, 2006.
CAT hosted the above course on behalf of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC). The participants came from eighteen Asian countries and the course was conducted by Mr. Peter Manuel and Mr. Khizar Hayat.
ACC/CA Specialist Skills Coaching Course
Chiang Mai, July 16-22, 2006
This high performance course was hosted by the CAT on behalf of the ACC in Chiang Mai and qualified coaches from all the Asian countries attended the course.
The course was conducted by presenters from Cricket Australia.
CAT Basic Cricket Coaching Course
Chiang Mai, October 19-21, 2006
Cricket has been present in Chiang Mai for the past few years. This course was aimed at bringing more new PE teachers in to learning the skills of cricket. The PE teachers who had already been teaching cricket in their schools also attended the course.
CAT Basic Cricket Coaching Course
Phuket, October 27 – 29, 2006
Due to the interest shown by the Phuket schools a basic course in cricket coaching was conducted for the PE teachers in Phuket. The attendance and interest shown by the Phuket PE teachers was very encouraging.
CAT Basic Cricket Coaching Course
Petchabun, November 11-12, 2006
The PE teachers of Petchabun province attended this course which was run over a period of two days. The theoretical and practical aspects of coaching were covered in this course. Most of the teachers had already introduced cricket in their respective schools and had a fair idea of the game.

CAT Under 17 Inter Regional Tournament
Chiang Mai, November 17 – 19, 2006
The Central, North and North East regions participated in the CAT Under 17 Inter Regional Cup. The games were played at the Chiang Mai Gymkhana Club and the Prem Center. The Central region won the tournament.

ACC Under 15 Tournament
December 13 to 23, 2006. Bangkok and Chiang Mai.
CAT hosted the ACC Under 15 tournament on behalf of the ACC in Chiang Mai and Bangkok. The final round was played in Bangkok. Ten countries, Brunei, China, Maldives, Myanmar, Qatar, Oman, Saudi Arabia, Bhutan, Iran and Thailand participated in the tournament. Oman won the tournament and Thailand was placed third in the tournament.
ACC Sports Medicine & Physical Fitness Course
Chiang Mai, January 7-13, 2006
This is an annual event organized by the ACC to develop sports trainers and sports medicine specialist. This is the second time that CAT has organized such a course in Thailand on behalf of the ACC.
CAT Seniors Inter Regional Cup
Bangkok, March 2 – 4, 2007
The Inaugural Inter regional tournament for the seniors was held in Bangkok. South, North, North East and Central participated in the tournament.
ACC Level 1 Coaching Course
Bangkok, March 18 – 23, 2007
CAT hosted this event on behalf of the ACC and this was attended by participants from all the Asian countries.
Training Camps
Training Camps were held for the under 15 team in Chiang Mai in preparation for the ACC U15 tournament.
Regional Coaches Meeting
CAT now has seven centres. They are situated in Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Chonburi, Khao Yai, Khon Kaen, Phuket and Petchabun. It is essential to have interaction among the coaches of different regions and this could be achieved only by organizing meetings for the coaches. Two such meetings were held for all the regional coaches to exchange views and assess the development in each region.
Events Participated by the CAT
Besides hosting events in Thailand, CAT has also participated in overseas events organized by the Asian Cricket Council (ACC).
ACC Trophy 2006
Kuala Lumpur, 15-27August, 2006
Thailand sent a senior National side to participate in the ACC Trophy. A total of sixteen countries participated in the tournament. Thailand defeated Iran and had a close game with Qatar. Thailand was placed third in the group standings.
ACC/CA Umpiring and Scorers Course Level 2, 2006
Kuala Lumpur, 12-18 August, 2006
ACC hosted this course in Kuala Lumpur and invited Umpires who had performed well in the Level 1 courses. One participant from Thailand attended this course.
ACC/CA Coach Educator Course, 2006
Kuala Lumpur, 15-21 September, 2006
This course was conducted by ACC to accredit educators who can conduct coaching courses in their respective countries. Two participants from Thailand attended this course and both were successful in getting accreditation.
Women’s Cricket
The women’s cricket has been a part of the CAT’s development activities. A major step was taken to prepare a women’s national team to participate in the inaugural ACC Women’s Cricket Tournament to be held in Johor Bharu, Malaysia. The women cricketers have shown great promise and the aim would be to qualify for the Asian Games to be held in Guangzhou in the year 2010.

Facilities
With the growth in cricket playing facilities become an integral part. CAT has developed turf wickets at the Asian Institute of Technology and Ching Mai Gymkhana Club. CAT has also contributed towards the brand new cricket ground at the Prem Center in Mae Rim, Chiang Mai.
Practice net facilities will be developed in all the centres by 2007-2008.

The International Cricket Council, Asian Cricket Council and Sports Authority of Thailand have played a major role in the development of cricket in Thailand. CAT will endeavour to meet the standards set by these organizations to enhance the opportunities for further development.
